7 Bookshops for Your Washington State Bucket List

Last fall, one of my best friends and I spent the day participating in a bookstore crawl – the same concept as a bar crawl, except instead of spending money on alcohol, we spent money on books, and rather than dealing with a hangover the next day, we trifled with the choice of which novel of the loot to read first.

The bookshops Washington State list I compiled for you today combines my favorites from our shopping day, local shops I visit every time I’m in Washington, and ones from other trips around the state.

King Fisher Bookstore

16 Front St NW, Coupeville, WA 98239

I am starting with my favorite bookstore on Whidbey Island and my top three favorite anywhere, King Fisher Bookstore, a cottage-core island bookshop fantasy.

The shop hugs the coastline, with a window downstairs opening to the harbor.

Its quant, it’s warm, it’s full of books. Surely to be one of your favorite bookshops in Washington.

Moonraker Bookstore

209 1st St, Langley, WA 98260

Second favorite bookstore on Whidbey Island is Moonraker.

Every shop in Langley, Washington, is a Hallmark Gilmore Girl compilation of small-town adorable, and Moonraker is no exception. Although this bookstore is small, they keep up with popular publications and carry great recommendations..

Pelican Bay Coffee and Books

520 Commercial Ave, Anacortes, WA 98221

Pelican Bay Coffee and Books is a family-owned used bookstore in the heart of downtown Anacortes, Washington. They have an incredible selection of used books. You can get lost in these stacks.

As the name suggests, the bookstore doubles as a cozy coffee shop serving lattes with housemade syrups.

Pelican Bay is a must-visit, the best-used bookstore I’ve encountered.

Watermark Book Company

612 Commercial Ave, Anacortes, WA 98221

Watermark Book Company is another locally owned and operated bookshop in Anacortes, providing a different experience. Watermark focuses on new rather than used books, so the two stores complement each other.

Wind and Tide

790 SE Pioneer Way, Oak Harbor, WA 98277

Wind and Tide books is stacks on stacks of new and used books. This is the bookstore you go to when you’re not looking for any one particular thing; you want to explore all types of things. I found a Field Guide for Slugs at this store. I wasn’t looking for that book, but I enjoyed reading it, and I’m glad to give it a home on my shelf.

Port Book and News

104 E 1st St, Port Angeles, WA 98362

I discovered this bookshop while my friend and I lived our best Twilight lives, traveling around Forks and Port Angeles, exploring the HOH Forest. I’ve since returned, this bookshop and town holds a special place in my heart.

A Book For All Seasons

707 US Hwy 2 B, Leavenworth, WA 98826

A Book For All Seasons is last on the list. A little off the trajectory of the map from previous shops, but just as everything in Leavenworth is charming, this bookstore is a charmer and couldn’t be kept away.
